I love portfolios. I use them to keep a record of our work throughout the year. It's a little something I picked up from my preschool teaching days (and mostly from my mom!). I love it and in my state it is a requirement if you choose not to do testing. Although we have not met the compulsory age yet, I find it is a great way to keep track of everything. It also allows me to get rid of what I don't need, and keep what I want neatly organized!
Full disclosure - right now, my portfolios from this current year are a total mess. So, I snapped some shots of last years portfolio.
I used this observation form, but this year I have a new/prettier one (free printable below!)
I take pictures of projects, activities & artwork to go along with the observations.
I also keep a select sampling of writing pages & art work.
